Friday is National Doughnut* Day here in the U.S! At Prenovate we're fans of moderation. There's nothing wrong with eating dessert here and there. If we're going to treat ourselves to a doughnut, or half, we might as well choose the type that best matches our nutritional needs.

This week saw a face-off between Prenovaters' two favorite doughnuts. The cake-type chocolate doughnut covered in glaze reached the top of the Prenovate favorites list. It's hard to deny this melt-in-your-mouth classic. But, there may be a better choice for your kidney diet. The glazed french cruller bests its chocolate cousin with better potassium, phosphorus and sugar values.

*Remember that fresh veggies, fruits, whole grains and healthy fats are the basis for a well-rounded diet. Fatty, sugary snacks like doughnuts should be an occasional treat.
